One Kings Lane
The floor BEFORE: While the rest of my apartment has lovely parquet wood flooring, the kitchen was not so lucky. A linoleum tile was what I referred to as “institutional chic.” While I dreamed of a whitewashed herringbone floor, Megan had an intriguing alternative: cork.

Beautiful dimensional glass tile became the finishing touch. We waited to do the backsplash until the perfect element came on the market.

We simply added a glass mosaic back-splash and simple knobs to their only cabinets in the very small kitchen. We added new curtains and installed a two tiered iron shelf to hold their microwave and toaster oven. We were able to free up much needed counter space.

In this kitchen we added hardware to the cabinets, a subway tile backslash, and decorated on top of the cabinets.

When I arrived the client had gorgeous antique pieces against every bit of wall space. We removed almost all of them and worked with the pieces that we were unable to move. I loved this bull head he had and wanted to use it as a statement pieces. I grabbed some wine bottles and glasses from the kitchen and set up a little wine area in the dining room.
The only thing purchased for this area was the faux flowers on the piano and the decor on the dining table.
Tip - Keep your blinds up as much as possible. If winter, you need also to remove your screens.

Using various online photos and DIY descriptions, I laid these out and, with the help of two friends, built them. Woman Power! I think my total expense was about $400. I had pipe sections cut at the store and used pine stepping (nice and thick and has the bullnose) that I bought from my local hardware store (under $200). I degreased the pipe (did not paint it) and used a prestain (essential for pine) and stain on the wood, followed by linseed oil. I love the shelves!
