Flavin ArchitectsThis remodel of a mid century gem is located in the town of Lincoln, MA a hot bed of modernist homes inspired by Gropius’ own house built nearby in the 1940’s. By the time the house was built, modernism had evolved from the Gropius era, to incorporate the rural vibe of Lincoln with spectacular exposed painted wood beams and deep overhangs.
The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture. The low pitched roofs, open floor plan, and large windows openings connect the house to nature to make the most of its rural setting.

Zugai Strudwick ArchitectsThe clients insisted upon bright purple kitchen cupboards. The concrete benchtops contrast with the bright colours.
UserThe dining room is framed by a metallic silver ceiling and molding alongside red and orange striped draperies paired with woven wood blinds. A contemporary nude painting hangs above a pair of vintage ivory lamps atop a vintage orange buffet.
Black rattan chairs with red leather seats surround a transitional stained trestle table, and the teal walls set off the room’s dark walnut wood floors and aqua blue hemp and wool rug.
ODS ArchitectureGoing up the Victorian front stair you enter Unit B at the second floor which opens to a flexible living space - previously there was no interior stair access to all floors so part of the task was to create a stairway that joined three floors together - so a sleek new stair tower was added.

A quiet, controlled color palette and clean lines drives the soothing chic vibe. Files, printers and chaos are hidden behind beautiful distressed custom cabinetry boasting beefy hand forged hardware. The cozy niche cradles a reframed wedding photo and the deepest, most comfortable armless settee. Client's own arm chairs look even more elegant in this new room!
