Taking inspiration from the agrarian site and a rustic architectural vernacular this terraced hillside garden evolved in response to time and place. The design vision was to celebrate the site, preserve the oak trees, accentuate views and create opportunities for modern day recreation and play. Michele Lee Willson Phototgraphy

With the original tray ceiling being a dominant feature in this space we decided to add a luxurious damask wall covering to make the room more elegant. The abstract rug adds a touch of modernity. Host and hostess chairs were custom-made for the project.

DIY front landscaping with pondless waterfall. A mixture of perennial and annual flowers keep the flowerbed looking lush all summer and is an inexpensive way to add curb appeal (tip: install a drip line for the hanging baskets - much easier than hand watering!) The black adironack style front porch swing that we built serves as the perfect place to sip lemonade and enjoy the blooms!

Perennial color is of course the most popular as the investment pays dividends as time goes on. Annual color then is trustworthy, filling the void between successive perennial blooms and providing consistent color throughout the summer. Photographed by Phil Steinhauer
