Part two storey and single storey extensions to a semi-detached 1930 home at the back of the house to expand the space for a growing family and allow for the interior to feel brighter and more joyful.

Single storey extension

A full house renovation was done to transform a standard “estate” house into a modern and comfortable home with a concentration on the ground floor living space. The 1st floor and converted attic were done up to bring up the quality of spaces like bedrooms and bathrooms while the main work was done to re-imagine the ground floor completely. A porch extends the entrance lobby and as you enter you can see all the way to the back windows of the extension makes the house feel grand. The black charred timber wall to the left acts as a guide but also hides a toilet, utility and pantry behind a series of hidden doors making the black wall itself feel like a huge object in the space. Earthy and warm tones are used across the finishes of the space, giving it a calm feel.

The stark volumes of the Albion Avenue Duplex were a reinvention of the traditional gable home. The design grew from a homage to the existing brick dwelling that stood on the site combined with the idea to reinterpret the lightweight costal vernacular. Two different homes now sit on the site, providing privacy and individuality from the existing streetscape. Light and breeze were concepts that powered a need for voids which provide open connections throughout the homes and help to passively cool them. Built by NorthMac Constructions.

In this project, the Tudor part was existing, though the bricks were redone and improved. The large resin driveway is extremely affordable for the price and quality received. At the back there is storage, storage for bikes and the heat pump hidden away which is quite large.
