Here at Folded House the existing home was extended into the roof with a winding square stair and extended into the garden to create an expansive living space.
A folded plywood sculptural intervention bringing together a stair, kitchen and storage. The intervention runs through all of the living rooms and dining rooms connecting the old home to the new extension seamlessly. High Quality design does not necessarily need to come from the use of the most expensive materials. Craft, care and meticulous detailing can elevate any material, even everyday plywood.
A new vertiginous, modern, birch plywood square spiral stair which rises through a void with a large skylight at its zenith. Light pours in during the morning, casting shadows and bringing life to the stair in the centre of the home. Ocular rooflights bring in more light to the living spaces and allow views to the greenery beyond
