Houzz App Adds 3D Augmented Reality to Help You Shop
Houzz App for iPhone and iPad offers hundreds of thousands of products viewable in your room in 3D before you buy

Houzz Inc., the leading platform for home renovation and design, today launched View in My Room 3D within its app for iPhone and iPad, available for free exclusively on the App Store. With View in My Room 3D, iPhone and iPad users can now preview over 300,000 furniture and decor products from the Houzz Shop in 3D, within their own homes, before they buy. The 3D models on Houzz include materials and textures, so that shoppers can see realistic surfaces rather than just shapes, helping them to pick the best products for their home.

“At Houzz, we’re focused on building technologies that can be used today, by the broadest number of people, to make the home improvement and home design experience more fun and productive,” said Alon Cohen, Houzz co-founder and president. “For View in My Room 3D, we have built an enormous product catalog that continues to grow daily, and integrated augmented reality into the Houzz browsing experience, making it fast and easy for people to virtually experience products in their own homes, and instantly buy them on the Houzz app.”

Since it was introduced in 2D last year, View in My Room has driven higher engagement and purchase conversion on the Houzz app. Upon launching the tool in 2016, 50 percent of Houzz app shoppers used View in My Room to preview the product in their home and spent 3X more time in the app.

View in My Room 3D is the work of Houzz Labs, an in-house team dedicated to applying the latest in visual technologies, including visual search and augmented reality, to the home design and shopping experience. The Houzz 3D team is comprised of engineers and artists, many of whom have 3D graphics experience from the video game and visual effects industries.

To use View in My Room 3D, a shopper simply taps the View in My Room 3D button on a product page for any 3D-enabled product, launching the iPhone or iPad camera. When the camera is held up to display the room, the selected product will appear in 3D in the screen. The shopper can manipulate the item, rotating and placing it at the best position and angle to see how the product would look in their home. A shopper can also add multiple products to see how they will work together in a room. People can then buy the product within the Houzz app or capture what’s on their screen, creating a Sketch that is saved to a Houzz ideabook where it can be shared with family, a home professional or other collaborators.

The Houzz app for iPhone and iPad is available on the App Store here.
