MRF Construction, Inc.We turned a forgotten space, where pipes, heating ducts and electrical wiring hung down from the ceiling, into a stunning wine cellar to house the homeowner’s prized collection of champagne. The original brick foundation wall was left exposed to complement the new custom double barrel vaulted ceiling, and mahogany racks were designed for optimum bottle storage. No detail was forgotten in this climate controlled wine room, from the travertine stone floors and stereo speakers to the LED lighting that illuminates without adding heat and heavy glass walls for enjoying it from the rest of the basement.

This wine room contains everything you need for the perfect night in. It is situated directly across from the entertainment center, which makes it easy to fix yourself a drink while keeping an eye on your favourite program. The wine rack, bar, and adjacent seating area are all highlighted by recessed lighting, drawing out the warm tones of the wood and creating a statement within the room. There is lots of room for both the storage and serving of wine, as well as an area to sit and enjoy the atmosphere of the small but distinctive room.

Bushman Dreyfus ArchitectsThis private residence is modeled after the working Palladian villas of the 16th century. This new home is carefully tucked into an agrarian vineyard setting at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Specific technical and aesthetic details were the result of careful research–both in the library and on the ground in Italy. Walls are plastered in marmorino (a centuries-old technique that adds marble dust to the plaster mixture) and the floors are covered in terra cotta tiles imported from Italy. Ceilings are vaulted plaster or wood timbers. The exterior is a traditional plaster that incorporates crushed brick and stone that compliments the Vicenza stone detailing at the porches and around the doors and windows. Skilled craftsman from Venice and Salerno were employed for the terra cotta, architectural stone, carved stone, roman brick, interior marmorino plaster and exterior stucco work.
