The perforated steel is finished with a clear lacquer over the raw “black” steel, a mill finish of the mild steel. Welds have been carefully concealed behind minimal edge framing. Behind the balustrade one can see the folded, perforated steps of the second stair flight. © Justin Alexander

Das Haus ist durch und durch im skandinavischem Stil gehalten. Das Skelett als Rahmenbauweise mit Stülpschalung außen und klare Linien im Inneren, die Farbgebung in rot-weiß und die verwendeten Materialien sprechen eine nordische Sprache. Die Räume wurden exakt auf die Bedürfnissse der jungen Familie zugeschnitten. Die Treppe als verbindendes Element im Zentrum des Hauses wurde um eine Bank an der 2. Stufe erweitert. So entstand ein Ort der Kommunikation zwischen Küche, Wohnzimmer, Flurbereich und Obergeschoß. Wir sind sicher, dass diese Bank die am meistgenutzte Sitzgelegenheit im ganzen Haus wird. Working closely with this international family we had the complex brief of refurbishing and redeveloping this grand Victorian house to combine a new England traditional design aesthetic with modern art, contemporary fittings and practical layouts to suit the young family. With a very specific budget, we set about re-using existing side extensions, re-configuring the spaces to optimise light and space. The result is a very special family home seeped in memories for this wonderful client.

This lovely Victorian house in Battersea was tired and dated before we opened it up and reconfigured the layout. We added a full width extension with Crittal doors to create an open plan kitchen/diner/play area for the family, and added a handsome deVOL shaker kitchen.
